Twestival 2011 is going to happen worldwide on 24th March 2011.
Twestival is short form for Twitter Festival. It is basically a mega tweet-up with lots of things added. In short, it is the ultimate Twitter Festival. Twitter Festivals or Twestivals happen all around the globe once a year. Twestival is one day event happening in multiple cities. The major aim of Twestival is the meet those who all are behind the tweets and join hands for a noble cause. The real power of Twestival is when everything comes together on one day, giving focus to an important cause, the cause being different every year.

Cochin Twestival is part of the Global event happening on 24th March 2011 and will be held at Cochin Gymkhana , vytilla , Cochin in the state of Kerala , India. Cochin Twestival aims at supporting Adarsh Chartiable Trust. Adarsh is an institute started by a wonderful set of people caring for and enabling the rehabilitation of differently-abled children. They lend more than a helping hand to children who have been diagnosed with brain-developmental-disorders such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, learning disorders which in most cases forces the children to drop out of or never attend conventional schools at all. They have grown from a modest institute looking after 7 children to an inspirational one helping over 230 children from all communities. A casual glance at their website, www.adarshrehab.com endears one to their cause. It is a work of great proportion, and the numbers involved can definitely be increased if we pitch in with support. Adarsh encourages children from the ages of 6 months to 12 years to be brought to their school for therapy and training, where they would be relegated to the care of trained therapists and medical consultants from various disciplines, and provided counseling. It does not end there – the children are also made to feel completely at home and equally like anyone else, by maintaining the atmosphere of a normal school, with uniforms, time-tables, assembly, competitions, excursions, etc.

It is the responsibility of each human being to help the needy ones. We have got a chance to live a better life with the “grace of God”, that doesn’t mean that we should just enjoy our and should worry about the society. We as responsible human beings should shape a happy living and should also help the needy people. A small donation can bring smile to faces of the children you require your hand as support. Today Morning as usual i was about to log into my yahoo account and to my surprise i saw 2 new buttons on the yahoo login page..

I tried connecting My Gmail account.. and also facebook account with yahoo.

Facebook Updates can be sent and received via the new yahoo facebook connect also can connect with gmail to use gmail in yahoo.. looks like yahoo can stop loss of customers with the new feature

PhotoJacker: Photo Album Downloader for Facebook

All of us would have come across situation when we need to find a solution to download an entire facebook album of more than 10 images.. and i too faced a situation like that and Normally anything more than 2 clicks is hard work for me. i didn’t google but just asked for suggestion in my twitter time-line and immediately one friend of mine @aravindjose popped up with the best solution for hijacking/downloading a facebook album.
His suggestion was PhotoJacker (f.k.a. FacePAD), known as the Photo Album Downloader for Facebook, which allows you to download entire Facebook albums with a click of a button.

“Neelathamara” Fame Archana Kavi was one of the most prolific tweeters among the celebrities from Kerala. Tweeters were shocked as she suddenly deleted her profile towards end of last week. A hell lot of gossip Stories started flowing in. some were so ridiculous proved to be too embarrassing. but all of a sudden, yesterday(18th Oct) , she was back to twitter proving every one else wrong. Apparently there wasn’t any serious reason to delete the account, but it was just her personal choice.

BarCamp Kerala 9 at Amrita Campus Karunagapally

Online Pookalam From CSharks

Csharks, leading computer game development company from Kerala, launched an Online Pookkalam creation and greeting application. They launched this as main attraction for the Onam season at gaming portal www.onlineindiangames.com . Find the Pookkalam Application at http://www.onlineindiangames.com/pookkalam/ . Also launched a facebook application which has an additional feature to post their pookkalam images to facebook at http://apps.facebook.com/pookkalam/

Onam is the most biggest festival in Kerala, which marks the homecoming of legendary King Mahabali. Onapookkalam is one of the main attraction for Onam festival, and it is a multi-tiered colourful arrangements of flowers and petals.

This application will call back malayalee’s memories of creating Pookkalam for Onam and can send the pookkalam created as greeting card to their friends. Users can design the base for pookkalam using the patterns available in the application and modifying them with the tools available. Then can arrange the flowers in the design as we do in real pookkalam. Once pookkalam finished you can share this to friends via email as Onam Greetings and save or print the pookkalam image you created.

Since the huge Air tragedy at Mangalore last saturday facebook and twitter profiles of the people died in the tragedy are getting a huge visits and some people feels the comments that are posted are little unfair in the contest. The Social media hasn’t been able to tackle this problem in a good way.

I’ve found only facebook is putting some effort into this by introducing report a deceased users profile page. they introduced it sometime back but not everyone know about it. i first came across it last year when a friend of mine died and i reported it to facebook..

Report on Malayalam Wikipedia Meet April 17 2010

yet another Saturday with a full day event to my schedule. Today(17th April 2010) it was the Malayalam Wikipedia Meet. The venue for the event was Rajagiri college of social sciences , kalamassery. It is always a Nostalgic feeling for me to be back in kalamassery campus of Rajagiri.

I reached at the venue few minutes past 10. as i reached the venue a session (Report of Malayalam Wikipedia) was on going. As soon as i reached i got chance to meet Tinu Cherian ,Manjith Kaini, Anoop Narayanan , Bipin K Das etc..

The Second session was by sunil. it was about the “copyright”. It was a lot informative. He tried his best to convey the good practices to make sure you don’t violate a copyright. He explained about the Wikipedia rules on copyright and also about the creative commons.. and i asked him “Is there any country which doesn’t have any image copyright policies ??” Manjith Kaini was always around helping everyone with the doubts on wikipedia.

Yet another Question that was raised in the discussions was which is better –> Inscript Typing or Manglish Typing.. even the Manglish typers suggested Inscript is better..

lunch was served to us at the College canteen. it was good !!

After the lunch Manjith kaini explained about various other section of malayalam wikipedia family like the wikibooks, wikisource, wikiquotes, wiktionary etc.

A Session on adding new article in wikipedia and also editing them was taken by Shiju alex and Anoop Narayanan. It was really great session for the new people of malayalam wikipedia. They explained it by a live example of adding wiki article about Rajagiri college of social Sciences. After the session we had tea break.

Soon after the break we had The biggest event–> malayalam Wikipedia CD release by Anwar sadath(Executive Director of It @school project). It is the First of its kind ever in India. The CD was later distributed among all the people who came for the meet. Anwar Sadath spoke about the need of open source knowledge sharing in todays world.. After that We had Mr Vimal speaking about the Open source in general and that was the last session of the day !

I was really surprised by the active participation of elder people in the event.. There were 70 attendees and had a good number of elder people who are interested in knowledge sharing. I hope and i wish Malayalam Wikipedia will reach more heights very soon..

Adobe Flex Launch event at Gods Own Country

My Usual Saturdays Starts at 10 am but today was different.. It was my Birthday. and we had the Adobe Flex Launch Event to happen today at Hotel Woods Manor Cochin. Juwal Bose one of the co-ordinators of the event had demanded me to bring sweeets to the event as it is my birthday. I reached the hotel at 9.30 and found many people have already arrived. some were familiar to me but most were strange faces just due to the fact that it was basiclly adobe developers in there and i’m alien to that field. As usual i was soon comfortable with this crowd too.
Bridge India Outsourcing the sponsers of the event had also been arrived at the venue. Really appreciate their willingness to sponsor and support and also to attend the event throughout the day.
The sessions started a little late due to a delayed flight from chennai. The event commenced as soon as Harish Sivaramakrishnan from Adobe reached the venue. Harish took the first session on New Adobe Flex. He created a demo app of a video player without a single line of code and also how to display a grid on a web page… quite enough for anyone to get interested in the new Flash Builder. After Harish’s session we had the morning tea.

After The Tea break Juwal took a sneakpeak session on few great plugins in Photoshop CS5. he showed us the video of how simple some otherwise thought to be tough jobs can be done with photoshop CS5. After that was a Session on what is new with Cold Fusion Builder by Thazleem from Toobler. Diana Kulke from Bridge India enlioghtened us about The Open Coffee initiative on april 21st 2010

Lunch Was Awesome and Delicious

After the lunch the sleepy mood was murdered by an awesome session by Vipin Chandran. His Session consisted of the Open source in Flash. it was greatly informative. second session by Juwal Bose was a sneak peak of Flash CS5. After That We had Tea and small session on iPlotz.

Networking was an important job done through out the event and most of us could get many new contacts throught that. There were few give away in the form of T-Shirts and pens from Adobe(I got a Tee).

A Report on Barcamp Kerala 8 at MACFAST , Tiruvalla

Mar Athanasios College For Advanced Studies ( MACFAST ) , Tiruvalla hosted the 8th Barcamp Kerala On March 28th 2010. The Number of attendees for barcamp was lower than last time due to various factors like Hosana Sunday , the Railways Issues and also the exams… . The Venue was exceptionally good .. MacFast Really Has a great Infrastructure .

The first session by Deepak on Statistical Machine Translation was awesome. It covered the Base of translation Technique in a simple and understandable way . It was the Best session in the Whole Barcamp Kerala 8 !!. The Mobile web by Shwetank Dixit was next. Shwetank was a representative of Opera. He talked about the technology trends and market stats of the mobile web.. and also about the latest standards in web like HTML5

The session about Spara was bit of an disappointment for the concept of Barcamp. Only attraction was the presenter but she too was married. I suggest even if you are just promoting a product try attending the barcamp in full .. coming in at 11am , taking a session immediatly and leaving as soon as it is over doesn’t sync with the Barcamp spirit. Do Better Next Time Artin Dynamics.. and next time please don’t break the guidelines of Barcamp Kerala “Presentations promoting specific commercial products or companies are discouraged.”

Aravind Jose showed a video about the future of web in kerala and his session comprised of the his forseeing of web in kerala for next 20 months. I’m skipping the short session i took.. i know it wasnt that great !!! The “No Negative Day” by Fahad Mether sounded like a good cause by quitting negative things in life for one day in a month. Really dont know how this will shape into. between .. it is observed 24th of every month.

Alan Haggai Alavi took a session on Perl. He is an expert on Perl. he tried to make it as simple as possible .. Even though he gave a good idea about perl the session lacked some examples which could have made the session more interesting.

It was the First Time We had food being sponsored for Barcamp. Thanks to MACFAST for the Lunch. As usual it was time for more informal tech talks and interactions in the Lunch Time.

“How to Start up” by Adv. Ivin Gancius gave an about starting a firm and various other factors like taxation, registrations, trademarks, patents etc… As usual Kenney Came up with a social concern.. this time “Marriages”… He talked about the evolution of various marriage systems existing and that has existed in the society. and as usual it got heated up in the due course.. it killed sleep of many attendees . .. Niju Mohan talked about his expereinces on TATA Jagriti Yatra. He shared his experience of the journey with the photographs and videos too.

Reni Yohanan took a half cooked session on Network security . The tried to discuss the various kind of threats and attacks in a network. Social Media Recruitment by Ajith Sam John had real substance in it . He talked about the recruitment through the social medias. The session reminded the attendees about the importance of updating ones profile in these websites and the concept of keeping the profile “clean”. Arun Basil Lal discussed about creating a website using wordpress …installation of wordpress, plugins, themes…. etc etc etc.

Binny VA discussed about the eNGO Product Launch. how he plans to launch it and also about its name change to TENads …Thanks a lot to Macfast for the evening Tea. The tea session is an oppurtunity for informal talks and discussions on various social issues and thrashing Manorama.

Yet another Facelift of FaceBook

It is about a week since Facebook revealed its new design to users world wide.. the design in a look is neat and good.. but i feel like they have made a mess up regarding few items..

The Notifications were earlier shown on the right side portion of the bottom bar which used to be static at that place .. it always helped to know about the notification almost instantly.. in the new design they have made the notifications appear on the TOP bar which gets scrolled out along with the page this makes it a uneasy to know the notifications if the page is scrolled a little bit down . I feel this as a real discomfort with notifications because of this change.

Some times when adding friends the add to list is not shown .. especially when someone refers a friend.. this is making it difficult for me to manage friends when you have a lot of friends.. and the process of adding an unlisted friend to a list is cluttered now.. you have to select the list take the edit list and browse through the friends list and add the single friend to that list. the older way of adding a friend to a list was easier to do

i hope facebook will take care of these usability issues in their next FaceLift

The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of InfoPark Kochi Phase II at kunnathunadu & puthencuruz village of kunnathunadu taluk will be done by Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala Shri V.S. Achuthanandan on 28th nov 2009(saturday) at 11.30 am.. The Functions will be held at Kochi infopark Campus at Kakkanad.

It sounds like a very good gesture from the part of kerala towards the Development of IT infrastructure in the state despite the backlash of the much hyped Smart City Kochi Project. My prayers for the Project to be successful and a great milestone in Development of the Country

My Friend Binny VA is having a 3 monitor desktop setup. The way he manages and works with the 3 monitor setup is simply awesome.Â Â He runs only single OS (Fedora) .Â He manages the 3 monitor setup using the XORG.CONF and XINERAMA utilities. I took the snap of Binny’s 3 monitor setup last sunday
