shashiIs there any problem with media now a days ?

something is really going wrong.. i guess the heat of competition is getting into the reporters head like never before. Most of them are trying to bring out controversies from even the silliest of things around them.

The latest has been cattle class controversy of Shashi tharoor. looks like even some congressmen are disappointed about having Mr Tharoor  as a minister ahead of some more experienced politicians.

First it was about him camping at a Star hotel. None of the media reporters who complained about his stay in star hotel never really checked who pays the bill. It would have been very easy for the media to first check the details through the “Right of Information act”..  Shashi Tharoor made it clear he was paying the bill from his pocket and he is not using the tax payers money. Now whats wrong with that?
Does it mean being a minister one should live in stone age?
Everyone know Mr Tharoor was working for the UN.  He is very well equipped with modern communication methods.

Now about the “cattle class”. The controversy rises from shear ignorance.  Cattle class is an American usage it means economy class..   He was merely reciprocating to a joke question from the associate editor of Pioneer .. And the The Journalist who asked the Question understood the joke and had no much comments on it. but some others took up and started making the issue and i was shocked to hear an MP saying emails and twitter are western and we should not use it.. Do he understand it was an Indian by the name Sabeer Bhatia who developed the HotMail. I Pity on the voters who were forced to elect this ignorant than a 8th grader man as their representative in parliament.

And most Shocking was a Report i Read in Mathrubhumi Daily . it said Shashi Tharoor was replying to a question about the travel from Ghana to Liberia from some common man. Mathrubhumi Being one of the early tweeters from India should have at least spend a couple of minutes to check what was the actual question and the answer and who really asked it.

I feel Ignorance is becoming a synonym for News Media in India.

Have a look at the exact conversation between Mr. Kanchan Gupta and Mr.Tharoor

What man? You’re only realizing now that there is some problem with the media? ;) We’re getting sore throats shouting at these ignorant folks who neither does their homework nor do the groundwork properly. The standard of our mainstream media has been a long curve down and I doubt if there is more to go to hit the trough.

About the error in the tweets, it actually happened to me as well. I followed a crappy online edition report about this controversy and also landed in Ghana/Liberia. lol, my blogger friends had to pith in to pull me out of the mess. All because of depending on these presswallas.
